Les Terrasses de Nanterre, Nanterre, France

How and where to keep on building? Should ecological housing be built in the very natural spaces it aims at preserving?

I chose to put into light the positive impact of an original action, situated in the suburban area: a solution both functionally elaborated and with little ground coverage, thus with a proportionally low living space.

In order to solve this contradiction, I imagined a living accommodation, the furniture of which can slide, so as to extend or hide, on demand, the habitation’s functions. The house fulfills in real-time the needs of its inhabitants, in a playful and interactive manner.

In terms of environmental and social responsibility, this building is largely opened to natural light. It has its own electricity production system, thanks to a solar farm. There is also a kitchen garden for home consumption. The upkeep of the garden is shared  between the building inhabitants, and thus contributes to the creation of proximity-based social bonding.
